Gran-Nu is a gold coated bead especially developed for glass artists. Use Gran-Nu to give your work granulation effect without using solid gold granules. Gran-Nu make it is simple, easy, and cost effective to add gold 3 dimensional embelishment to your art piece.

Choose 23K for Choose 24K for (by order only)
--- warm, muted, rich gold finish
--- a more economical solution than 24K
--- designs where Gran-Nu is used under transparent enamel
--- intense pure gold finish
--- high shine and brightness

Gran-Nu is easy to use.
Just place Gran-Nu granules with the flat side down on your enameled surface and kiln fire as you normally would fire enamel. Gran-Nu is designed to work with both non-leaded and lead bearing medium temperature, medium expansion vitreous enamels. No special preparation is necessary.

Gran-Nu is economical.
Gran-Nu is coated with real 24K or 23K gold. Compared to the high karat, solid gold granules traditionally used in granulation techniques, Gran-Nu offers a significantly more cost effective means to add the richness of gold to your work.

Gran-Nu is durable.
Gran-Nu’s gold coating is comparable in thickness to the heavy Japanese gold foil that many enamellists are familiar with. Properly fired, Gran-Nu can withstand multiple firings without degradation.

Gran-Nu can be used with any color of enamel.
Unlike fine silver granules, which often adversely react with red, pink or yellow based enamels, Gran-Nu's gold coating is safe to use with any enamel color. Warm tones appear richer when accented with Gran-Nu gold coated granules.

--- Special Considerations ---

When using Gran-Nu, keep the firing temperature under 1500F(816C). Firing at temperatures higher than recommended may cause Gran-Nu to lose its 3-D shape.

Gran-Nu will not fuse directly to bare metal surfaces when fired at recommended temperatures (under 1500F). It may be possible to fuse Gran-Nu to metal surfaces by heating to higher temperatures but this will distort the shape of the granule and may affect the gold coating.

Gran-Nu is not recommended for use in torch fired enamel techniques.

Prior to firing, 23K Gran-Nu may appear slightly tarnished or discolored. This is mainly due to the materials alloyed with the gold. Firing the 23K granules, especially under a coating of transparent enamel, will dissipate the discoloration and result in a beautiful, rich shade of gold.

Care in the placement of Gran-Nu granules should be exercised. The granules may shift or move as the enamel flows during firing. Firing for long periods increases this type of movement.

Diluted Klyr-fire may be used to adhere granules to steeply domed or curved surfaces.

Excessive rubbing or physical contact may wear out gold coating of Gran-Nu and expose glass surface.

Helpful tips

1. Place Gran-Nu in a shallow box and shake gently from side to side. Most Gran-Nu will settle on flat side down position.

2. When you pick up Gran-Nu with tweezers, sometimes it is easier to squeeze top and bottom rather than both side of Gran-Nu.
